The city developed rapidly in years that followed, becoming a great hub of industry with textile mills, mercantile establishments, soybean, cattle and cotton farms.ĭuring the 1950s, the city merged with nearby towns Oak Ridge and Eden, and a lake and dam was constructed shortly after, bringing recreational pursuits, tourisms and more homes to the area.
